Fashion Looks North - Interview

"I'm Lauren or 'L' as I'm known on my blog 'Fashion Looks North'. I'm currently at Northumbria University studying Fashion Communcation and spend a lot of my time dotting between Newcastle and Leeds on trains!"

-What do you like to do in your spare time?
I'm a bit of a blog geek and when I'm not doing coursework/blogging/scouting I go in search of and read fashion or other inspiring blogs. I also love eating out and have a particular pencant for Sushi and Mexican food, a costly habit unfortunately!

-What are your favourite blogs?
- At the moment I love Ventures of Jenn and A Little Bird Told Me, but my favourites chop and change and I have a massive reading list which I try and keep up with!

-How would you describe your personal style?
My personal style is a bit of a mish mash, I can be quite girly but like to harden things up. For example, a mini dress and a hair bow I would put with my heeled patent Dr. Marten's, (favourite footwear EVER! Also extremely useful in deep snow...)
I really hate jeans - we just don't get on AT ALL. I like them on other people but not me and to be honest, I only own two pairs of trousers which I'm not often seen in.
I love neck scaves, whether they be big and chunky just for winter or silk a nd patterned. The brighter the better - love a bit of colour.

-What made you start your blog?
I started Fashion Looks North because I felt that street style seemed to be quite confined to the south and London and I wanted that to change.

-What do you love most about Northerners styles?
I think the best thing about northern style is that people can still stand out, but not feel the need to make themselves too over-the-top. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with eccentric fashion, (I love it as much as the next person), however it is easier to relate and take inspiration from something that is a little more on your level or understated.

-Do you think street style is going to set all the trends in the future?
Street style is already shaping the future of fashion. Designers are now sitting up and realising what a valuable source it can be, some even paying some blogs to feed them inspiration! Even if a blog doesn't set a trend it can still provide an outlet for the public to draw from and incorporate into their own person style.

- So what trends do you think are emerging from the street style you see?
-Recently I've seen a lot of men in rolled-up drainpipe jeans and loafers.

-What do you think makes a person stylish?
To have style is to know who you are, what you like and wear it with confidence.

-And if you were Anna Wintour, who would you put on the cover of Vogue?
I would be very tempted to put someone I pulled off the street on the cover, someone with a really great look - it would certainly attract attention!

-The previous interviewee Vinda wanted to ask: If you're to be reborn into a designer, who'd that be?
- Gareth Pugh, he's amazing. I first saw him when he appeared on 'Fashion House' waaaay before he got big. He really pushed the boundaries and although some of his designs were a little bizarre you have to admire his creativity.

- And what question would you like the next interviewee to be asked?
- If you could chose an item from your wardrobe that most defines you, what would it be?

Aah, the second ever interview! With the lovely Lauren from Fashion Looks North
